Here are the top stories today in Tampa:
- Crews broke ground Friday on a townhouse community called "Canvas GWX" in Ybor City's upcoming Gas Worx district. Unit sizes will be 2,100 to 2,400 square feet. Prices start at $735,000 for units and 18 units are under contract. The development is being led by Darryl Shaw. (Tampa Patch)
- Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Nancy Jacobs is accused of making "inappropriate and disparaging" remarks about her opponent in the 2022 election. The findings were published by the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission. She has been invited to file a written answer to the charges at the Florida Supreme Court. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center for those impacted by Hurricane Idalia in St. Petersburg. The center will be open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Enoch D. Davis Center located at 111 18th Ave. S. Residents can register for assistance online or via phone as well. (WTSP)
- There is a new exhibit from University of South Florida's Institute for Forensic Anthropology & Applied Science featuring forgotten burial grounds. The exhibit is running through Jan. 30 and located at USF Social Science Building. Lost burial grounds have been highly controversial in Tampa over the last several years and the exhibit focuses on more than 30 lost cemeteries. (Bay News 9)
- Enchant Christmas is returning to Tampa Bay this winter at Tropicana Field. The festival of lights will run from Nov. 24 to Dec. 31. Guests can enjoy ice skating, Christmas market, a play area for children and more. Tickets are already on-sale for the event online. (WFLA)
