GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 5-7
With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the South Tampa-Hyde Park area.

Demolicious Birthday Bash
Tampa Upcycle and the Tampa Bay Etsy Crew will celebrate their birthday Saturday, April 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at The Roosevelt 2.0, 1812 N. 15th St., Tampa. The event will feature live demonstrations, a sampling of vendors and party favors. Admission is free but those attending can participate in a hands-on project for $5.

Italian Idol Singing Competition
Festa Italiana, 1800 E. 8th Ave., Tampa, in Ybor City will host the Italian Idol Singing Competition Saturday, April 6 from noon to 4 p.m. Open to age kindergarten through adults, performance selections can be up to 3 minutes long and sung acapella or with a CD. You dont' have to be Italian to enter.

Chillounge Night
The fourth annual Chillounge Night, the ultimate outdoor lounge party, will take place April 6 starting at 7 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Dr., Tampa. Benefitting the Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc., the event will feature live music by Gumbi Ortiz with his New Groove City Band, a fashion show by Dona Crowley with Luxe Fashion Group, hard rock tunes by Tampa DJ Chris Craze, food vendors and cash bars. General admission tickets are $25.
Hyde Park Village Fresh Market
The Hyde Park Village Fresh Market takes place around the fountain at 1621 W. Snow Circle, Tampa, the first Sunday of each monthf rom 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It features more than 100 vendors selling produce, plants, fresh bread, handcrafted jewelry, gourmet foods, art and crafts.
Summer Splash Fair
The Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W. Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa, will host a Summer Splash Fair Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., showcasing the museum's summer camps. The event will include live entertainment, free activities, music and giveaways every half-hour, including free weeks of camp, and a rock performance by students of Patel Conservatory’s Rock School. The first 150 kids also will receive a goody bag filled with summer essentials. Admission is $5 per person and includes all-day play in the museum.
Saturday Storytime
Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 213 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, hosts a weekly story hour for kids Saturdays at 11 a.m.
Mobile Garden to Visit
Truck Farm Tampa's mobile garden will visit Hyde Park Village Sunday, April 7. In addition to the mobile garden, there will be produce vendors and Chipotle will pass out a "Grow Your Own" card to kids that will include a cilantro seed disk for planting, a salsa recipe and a BOGO burrito buck.
"'S Wonderful" on Stage
The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts will present ’S Wonderful in the Jaeb Theater Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Five mini-musicals take audiences on a ride to the different places, times and styles that made the Gershwin brothers the most successful songwriting team in musical history. Regularly priced tickets for ’S Wonderful start at $32.50.
Rock School Blowout
Patel Conservatory's students and faculty will pay tribute Lee Ahlin, creator of the Rock School at the Patel Conservatory, during a free Rock School Blowout Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W. Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa.
Downtown Sunday Market
The Tampa Downtown Sunday Market is held each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 600 and 700 blocks of Franklin Street. More than 50 vendors sell produce, art, specialty food and crafts.
Social and Cycling
The Tampa Bay Runners Club meets Sundays at 4 p.m. at 97 Columbia Dr. on Davis Islands for a bike ride and social hour.
