GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview March 29-31

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the South Tampa-Hyde Park area.

It's Thursday and you have no weekend plans. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit.

Cuban Sandwich Festival

The Best Cuban Sandwich in Florida will be named on Saturday, March 30 in Centennial Park, 1800 E. 8th Ave., in Ybor City. Up to 20 restaurants will compete for the title in traditional, nontraditional and fan favorite categories starting at 10:30 a.m.

The free, family-friendly festival will run until 5:30 p.m. and will feature arts, crafts, Latino foods and live music from Sol Caribe, Juan Esteban and Jeremy Rosado.

Confirmed competitors include defending champions Faedo’s On the Go (first place in traditional category) and Stone Soup Company (second place in traditional category), Alessi Bakery, La Teresita, Mr. Empanada, Danny's All American Diner, The Floridian, Sabroso Cuban Restaurant, Pipo’s Cuban Café, Datz, NY Café, Docho’s Concession, Papa Joe’s Subs, Murray’s Chicago Deli, Moe’s Hot Dogs, Ruben’s Cubans and Country Market & Deli.

Judging will take place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the winners will be announced at 3 p.m

New Seeds Festival

The New Seeds Festival, the Southeast Women's Performing Arts Festival, will take place Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Tampa Preparatory School, 727 W. Cass St., Tampa. The festival showcases dynamic, avant garde work across all genres: music, dance, spoken word, theater and comedy during Women's History Month. Tickets are $20.

Puzzle Mania

The John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N. Ashley St., Tampa, will host Puzzle Mania Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. Families are invited to spend some time together working on a variety of puzzles at the library.

Pub Crawl

The GFWC Tampa Juniors will host their GLOW for Education Pub Crawl Saturday, March 30 starting at 6:30 p.m. at First Chance Last Chance in Ybor City. Tickets are $20 and include five raffle tickets.

Photos with the Easter Bunny

Have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny Friday, March 29 from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Easter Cottage at Hyde Park Village, 1621 W. Snow Circle, Tampa. Friendly pets are welcome.

Saturday Storytime

Barmes & Noble Booksellers, 213 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, hosts a Saturday storytime at 11 a.m.

Easter Brunch

Carmel Cafe & Wine Bar, 3601 W. Swann Ave., Tampa, will host an Easter Brunch Sunday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The brunch will include specialties like the Mod Med Omelet made with jumbo lump crab, artichoke and goat cheese, citrus-kissed French Toast served with warm maple syrup, powdered sugar and bacon or a Steak & Egg Slider accompanied by horseradish aioli.

Easter Sunday Service

Bayshore Presbyterian Church, 2515 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa, will host an Easter Sunday Service on the lawn overlooking the bay Sunday, March 31 at 6:45 a.m.

Downtown Sunday Market

The Tampa Downtown Sunday Market is held each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 600 and 700 blocks of Franklin Street. More than 50 vendors sell produce, art, specialty food and crafts.

Social and Cycling

The Tampa Bay Runners Club meets Sundays at 4 p.m. at 97 Columbia Dr. on Davis Islands for a bike ride and social hour.
