3 Water Street Tampa Buildings Earn Honors for Construction Excellence

TAMPA, FL— Coastal Construction has won the prestigious General Contractor Project of the Year award by Associated Builders and Contractors's Gulf Coast Chapter for the company’s work on Heron Residences at Water Street during the 2023 ABC Excellence in Construction Awards Ceremony held at the downtown Tampa Hilton.

"It is an incredible honor to receive this award from Associated Builders and Contractors," said Sean DeMartino, president of central and north Florida for Coastal Construction, the general contractor for the Heron. Additionally, Coastal Construction’s subcontractor, Baker Concrete, won Subcontractor Project of the Year for the Thousand & One (1001 Water St., Tampa) office tower project. Coastal was the general contractor for Thousand & One.

Since entering the Tampa Bay market, Coastal has worked on a number of high-profile projects, from the J.W. Marriott in Water Street Tampa to current projects like Art House in downtown St. Petersburg, the Ritz Residences along Tampa’s Bayshore Boulevard and the highly anticipated Arts and Entertainment Residences located between the Straz Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Glazer Children’s Museum, Tampa Riverwalk and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

A privately owned company, Coastal Construction is one of the largest general contractors in the Southeast with offices in Miami, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach.

In addition to the Heron Residences and Thousand & One, Tampa-based real estate development firm Strategic Property Partners LLC announced that the Cora luxury rental community received top honors at the 2023 Excellence in Construction Awards for the project’s innovation, quality and vision.

Further demonstrating Water Street Tampa’s commitment to excellence across the neighborhood, Cora with Moss Construction was also awarded the Multi Family Mega Project award in this year’s ABC Excellence in Construction awards. The Multi Family Mega Project award evaluates all projects, regardless of type, over $100 million.

Additionally, Asher and The Tampa Edition also made the nominations for the year’s awards.

Located at 815 Water Street along Water Street Tampa’s namesake and main thoroughfare, Heron was the first residential development to open in the 56-acre neighborhood. SPP’s first project, Water Street Tampa, is being developed on 56 acres of contiguous land the company owns in downtown Tampa along the waterfront. The phased Water Street Tampa development project commenced vertical construction in 2018 and is revitalizing the downtown Tampa core into an urban, mixed-use waterfront district consisting of approximately nine million square feet of new commercial, residential, hospitality, cultural, entertainment, educational and retail uses, totaling over $3.5 billion in private investment from SPP.
