Jesuit High Announces Services For Paul Straub

The longtime Jesuit High School athletic director and coach died on June 6.

TAMPA, FL – Jesuit High School has announced the funeral service information for Paul Straub.

Straub, who served Jesuit high school for 43 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director, died Tuesday, June 6, two days shy of his 96th birthday.

The following services will be held next week in honor of Straub:

  • Visitation – Monday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 12690 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace,
  • Visitation – Tuesday, June 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Jesuit High School, 4701 N. Himes Ave., Tampa
  • Funeral Mass – Tuesday, June 13 at 6 p.m., Jesuit High School
  • Burial – Wednesday, June 14 at 11 a.m., 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa

A native of West Virginia, Straub lost both legs during World War II in a shell explosion at Guadalcanal in the Pacific theater. After three years in Navy hospitals, Straub returned to civilian life at the University of Tampa, where he graduated in 1948.

Straub arrived at Jesuit in 1949 as a history and science teacher, as well as football, basketball, and track and field coach. Except for a brief stint working at University of Tampa in the 1950s, Straub was an institution at Jesuit for more than four decades.
