Man, 21, Broke Baby’s Legs, Arm, Ribs: Deputies

A Tampa man faces criminal charges after a four-week-old girl suffered multiple broken bones.

TAMPA, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a 21-year-old Tampa man on four counts of aggravated child abuse. Deputies say he is responsible for a 4-week-old girl suffering multiple broken bones.

The investigation into Antonio Enrique Cordero's alleged illegal activities began around 10 p.m. Aug. 22 when the baby was brought to a local emergency room with a swollen foot and fever, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

“During a thorough medical exam, doctors discovered the infant's leg to be fractured, along with other multiple bone fractures to both legs, arm and two ribs in various stages of healing,” the email said.

Deputies say their investigation into the child’s injuries led them to Cordero, 21. They have not elaborated on the nature of his relationship with the infant. The agency, however, says “Cordero admitted to the offenses.”

Cordero’s arrest was announced Friday, Aug. 25.
