Man, 24, Charged In Girlfriend’s Murder
Tampa Police say a call about a possibly suicidal man led to the discovery of a woman's body.

TAMPA, FL — A 24-year-old Tampa man faces first-degree murder charges after a welfare check on him led detectives to his girlfriend’s body on Saturday.
According to the Tampa Police Department, Hector Acevedo told relatives on April 22 that he wanted to kill himself. Concerned, relatives contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived at Acevedo’s home to check on him, they found him in possession of a firearm. Since Acevedo is a convicted felon, deputies brought him into custody, the police department said.

“While in custody, he made statements that raised concerns about the well-being of his girlfriend,” an email from the police department said. Tampa Police were contacted and went to Sheyanne Lewis’ apartment in the 4800 block of College Court to check on her.
Police say there was no answer to their knock on the door, so they forced entry and found Lewis, 23, dead inside due to “body trauma.”
