Man Dies After Fall Near Tampa Convention Center

A worker who fell into water near the Tampa Convention Center Monday has died.

TAMPA, FL — A 53-year-old man pulled from water near the Tampa Convention Center Monday has died, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Johnnie Norton, an employee of C&W Services, was pressure washing the docks outside the center Monday morning when he fell in, the agency wrote in an email to media.

When he didn't resurface, authorities were called to the scene around 11 a.m. May 15.

Police divers "searched for several minutes before finally recovering the man underwater."

No further information is being released at this time. An official cause of death has not yet been released.
