Man Tased By Cops Died After Falling Into Traffic: Tampa Police
A man died while being arrested after he was tased by officers and fell into oncoming traffic while running away, Tampa police said.
TAMPA, FL — Detectives are investigating an in-custody death that happened Tuesday night, Tampa police said in a news release.
A man was arrested on charges related to an ongoing investigation near North Ashley Drive and East Whiting Street just after 8 p.m.
While speaking with officers, the suspect, who was handcuffed, pulled away and escaped from them, running away, police said.

An officer tased the suspect, who fell into the road in front of oncoming traffic, detectives said. A vehicle hit the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car’s driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will take the lead on the death investigation while the Tampa Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit will investigate the crash.
An internal investigation will look into whether officers involved adhered to all department policies and procedures, police said.
