Master Developer Sought For Land Surrounding Tampa Museum Of Science
The Hillsborough County Commission is seeking proposals to revitalize 67 acres around the Museum of Science & Industry.

TAMPA, FL — The Hillsborough County Commission is seeking a master developer to transform 67 acres of land around the Museum of Science & Industry at 4801 E Fowler Ave., across from the University of South Florida.
During its Nov. 1 meeting, the commission unanimously approved putting out a request for master developers with a track record of mixed urban projects to submit creative and competitive proposals for the redevelopment of the property.
The property is part of the Uptown Innovation District, a district created to revitalize the University of South Florida area with an innovative and inclusive mix of hospitality, entertainment, retail and public spaces that embrace sustainable mobility.

The county commission also hopes developers will include economic drivers such as biosciences, life sciences, cybersecurity and other advanced industries that will capitalize on the contributions of the plan's partners including USF, the Moffit Cancer Center, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and the Yuengling Center.

The county intends to renew MOSI's lease for its 7-acre site with plans to add a planetarium, learning labs, a commercial audio-visual or film studio, a black box theater and other performing arts platforms.
Advertising for the request for proposals has begun with submissions due in late February.
The county commission hopes to select the top-ranked master developer by next summer.
