National Burger Chain Continues FL Expansion With New Restaurant

Whataburger continues its Florida expansion with its first Tampa Bay-area location in decades, reports said.

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Whataburger, a national burger chain, is continuing its Florida expansion with a new restaurant planned for the Tampa Bay area, according to multiple reports.

The Texas-based chain filed for permits to open a new location will open at 25340 Sierra Center Blvd, in a building formerly occupied by Aussie Grill, near State Road 54 and Wesley Chapel Boulevard, WFLA reported.

The permit calls for a full interior and exterior remodel of the building, That’s So Tampa said. While the layout will largely remain the same, there will be some updates, including a fresh coat of paint, wall finishes, updated restrooms, and upgrades to the kitchen, front counter, lobby, and dining area.

The building’s exterior will be painted to match the Whataburger brand.

In August, the company announced its plans to expand in the Tampa Bay area with several new locations by 2026, Creative Loafing reported.

The region previously was home to multiple Whataburger locations in the late-1990s and early-2000s, reports said.

The 75-year-old company has more than 1,100 restaurants in 17 states, according to its website. This includes more than 45 locations in Florida.
