  • A Hillsborough High School student was found with a stolen gun and loaded ammo on Friday by police.

  1. A bicyclist in Tampa was killed on Thursday when crossing the 2100 block of West Waters Avenue at 5:46 a.m., according to authorities. Police attempted to save the life of the cyclist but could not save the cyclist. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police. (Tampa Patch)
  2. Hurricane Idalia took Beer Can Island up to five feet underwater this week, completely damaging a food truck and other items built on it. The food truck was flung nearly 14 feet into the air, according to the owners. The hurricane damaged most of what owners have installed on the island since 2017. Owners are planning to rebuild amid an intense fight with Hillsborough County for ownership of the island. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)
  3. OddFellows Ice Cream and SEGA have joined forces to release a limited-edition Sonic the Hedgehog ice cream release with four flavors featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Miles Prower also known as Tails, and Amy Rose. Fans of the series can pick-up the ice cream at local shops including one in Tampa's Hyde Park Village at 718 S Village Circle. It is also available online and at GoldBelly. (CarlosEats.com)
  4. Healthy food concept Greenlane is opening a new location in Tampa's Westshore District at 2055 N Dale Mabry Highway. An opening date has yet to be announced as of Friday afternoon. The restaurant currently has a location at 4495 West Gandy Blvd. and is opening a new drive-thru in St. Petersburg as well. (That's So Tampa)
  5. Police arrested a Hillsborough High School student Friday after a stolen and loaded 9-millimeter gun and more than 20 rounds of ammo were found in his backpack. The student is facing multiple felonies in the incident. The student's bag was searched after he was found vaping in a restroom, according to a news report. (ABC Action News)
