Pre-Sales Of 2nd Phase Of Tiny Homes In Thonotosassa Underway

Tiny RV home builder, ESCAPE Homes, has announced the pre-sales of tiny homes at ESCAPE Tampa Bay's The Oaks in Thonotosassa.

TAMPA, FL — Residents who are really serious about downsizing now have the option of moving into Tampa Bay's tiniest community.

Tiny RV home builder, ESCAPE Homes, has announced the pre-sales of tiny homes at ESCAPE Tampa Bay's The Oaks, an expansion of the original ESCAPE Tampa Bay Village in Thonotosassa that sold out in months.

Situated next to the original village in an environmentally sensitive area, this new eco-friendly tiny home community at 11008 N U.S. 301 is triple the size, although its homes are still tiny ranging from 400 square feet up.

"Tampa is booming," said ESCAPE founder, Dan Dobrowolski, founder of the Rice Lake, Wisconsin-based company. "Forbes says Florida's the best place to live, and demand for our first ESCAPE Tampa Bay Village was so strong that we developed a multimillion dollar expansion of the next phase of tiny living next door."

The original ESCAPE Tampa Bay Village was designed in 2020 as a prototype for the post-pandemic world, offering 10 eco-efficient tiny homes in a quiet, park-like setting with easy access to downtown Tampa.

“Little did we know we’d experience such demand so quickly,” said Dobrowolski. “The opportunity to work remotely, reduce the carbon footprint and still live in a beautiful home for a fraction of the cost has energized people to take the step toward tiny living.”

The Oaks offers 23 affordable and sustainable ESCAPE tiny homes in a private, gated community. Eight of the homes have already been sold.

The Oaks will feature most of the popular ESCAPE tiny home designs as well as the company's first Mid-Century Modern tiny home and the last of its original tiny home design, the ESCAPE Classic.

Each home features an open floor plan, outdoor deck and a panorama of windows that draw the outdoors in. Some are nestled within a palm court, others around a central park featuring live oaks. Amenities include a large community pool and indoor and outdoor community work and relaxation spaces.

Dobrowolski, a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa and a former TV personality for WFLA-TV in Tampa, enlisted the expertise of Frank Lloyd Wright protege, John Rattenbury, and Kelly Davis, an award-winning architect emeritus from SALA Architects in Minneapolis, to design some of the resort cottages.

He said ESCAPE Tampa Bay Village has been designed as a more affordable alternative to apartment living where the owners not only save money monthly but also build equity.

The purchase price of a tiny home starts at $500 a month plus a $625 average monthly lot rental fee that includes water, sewer and garbage/recycling and designated parking. That's about 35 percent less than the median apartment rental rate in Tampa of $1775 a month, Dobrowolski said.

The total cost of a tiny home ranges from $82,072 to $249,550 for the new Mid-Century Modern design

This is Dobrowolski’s third tiny home community. He opened Canoe Bay ESCAPE Village last year, adjacent to his award-winning resort, Canoe Bay in northwest Wisconsin.

Residents are invited to explore the community at an open house on June 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. Click here for directions. All the units around the main park are now in place and buyers can occupy them immediately. Units that are not sold will be open to tour. Click here to see the available homes and their locations.
