Publix Recalls Apple Coffee Cakes, Metal Shavings Possibly Inside Product

No injuries have been reported. Product was sold in six states, including stores across the Tampa area.

LAKELAND, FL – Publix stores in six states have tossed Apple Coffee Cake products and consumers have been encouraged to return the product after a voluntary recall. Small metal shavings may be present within the product, according to a recall announcement Sept. 8.

The product was sold in Publix bakery departments in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and the following counties in Florida: Alachua, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota.

The product has a UPC of 002-19562-00000 and includes all date codes.

There have been no reported cases of illness or injury, according to Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director.

"As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from store shelves,” Brous said in a statement.

Consumers who have purchased the coffee cakes can return the product to their local store for a full refund.
