ICYMI: Publix, Starbucks Teaming Up for In-Store Cafés
The test-run of a Starbucks inside a Publix will take place at Tampa's West Gandy Boulevard store.

TAMPA, FL — For those who think the only thing that could make a Pub sub better is a Frappuccino on the side, Publix and Starbucks have a surprise in store. The two companies have announced a trial team-up that will soon roll out at a Tampa Publix location.
Publix spokesman Brian West confirmed the pairing by email Wednesday. The trial run will take place at Tampa’s West Gandy Boulevard store. The current café will be replaced with a 286-square-foot Starbucks kiosk. Other Publix stores will also introduce Starbucks’ locations as part of the trial run. Just where they’ll go in and how soon hasn’t been released as of yet.
Publix will reportedly run the new cafés with its own employees. Those employees will receive the same training Starbucks employees undergo before earning the title of barista.

West said it’s hoped the new addition will enhance the shopping experience for customers, several media outlets have reported.
The trial run’s announcement comes as Publix faces increasing pressure in the Florida market from other grocery chains. In addition existing competition from Whole Foods, Safeway recently launched three stores in the Sunshine State, including one in Largo. Wegman’s is also pushing south with plans to open in North Carolina, where Publix is already established.
