Rosie The Elephant Devours Pumpkins, Candy Corn For Birthday: Video

TAMPA, FL — It's Rosie the elephant's favorite time of the year.

Each fall, she celebrates her birthday by binging on her favorite treats: pumpkins and candy corn ice treats.

This year, Rosie celebrated her 53rd birthday at Busch Gardens Tampa. As an enrichment activity for Rosie and her fellow herd members, the animal care workers at Busch Gardens transformed her environment into a festive pumpkin patch including faux pumpkins that the elephants enjoyed rolling up in their trunks and tossing, and real pumpkins that the elephants quickly popped the tops off and consumed the pulp and seeds inside.

Other zoo critters — including leopards, tigers, chimps and gorillas — also have a fondness for pumpkins that the animal care team satisfied.
