Depression Forces West Waters Avenue Closing

Motorists are being asked to steer clear of a section of West Waters Avenue after a depression opened up Monday.

TAMPA, FL — The City of Tampa is asking motorists to avoid a stretch of West Water Avenue as crews work to restore a section of road where a depression opened up Monday.

According to the city, West Waters Avenue between North Rome and North Packwood avenues is off limits.

“While this work is in progress eastbound and westbound traffic is being merged into the right lanes,” an email from the city’s wastewater department said. “Signage and arrow boards will be in place to alert motorists of the lane shifts and direct them around the closed section of the road.”

Restoration work is hoped to be completed, weather permitting, by Thursday, June 22.

It is currently unclear what caused the depression to open up in the roadway or how big it is.
