Room Heater Starts Fire At Tampa Marriott; No Injuries
The sprinkler system inside the room activated, keeping the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived.

TAMPA, FL - A room heater on the third floor of the Courtyard Marriott on Cypress Street caught fire Thursday night and the hotel was evacuated, firefighters said. The guest in the room alerted hotel staff, called 911 then also alerted guests in adjacent rooms. The sprinkler system inside the room activated, keeping the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived.
Other rooms sustained smoke and water damage, firefighters said. Investigators believe the cause of the fire was an electrical/mechanical malfunction of the room heater/air conditioner. The fire started about 9:15 p.m. and was under control after about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
