TAMPA, FL — A land swap deal between Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and a developer is in the works in Ybor City, according to multiple reports.

The Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners will consider a plan to move the sheriff’s office from its property at 2008 E. Eighth Ave. to Grow Financial’s current headquarters at 9927, which developer Darryl Shaw is under contract to purchase, later this month, the Tampa Free Press reported.

Shaw already owns multiple properties throughout Ybor City and is a partner in the planned Gasworx District, a 50-acre, 6-million-square-foot mixed-use neighborhood that is under construction between Ybor City and Channelside.

Grow Financial has signed a lease to move into the Gasworx development, Tampa Bay Business Journal said.

The land swap deal between HCSO and Shaw is designed to reconnect Ninth Avenue to the historic district and promote future redevelopment in the area, reports said.

“Whenever there's a chance to collaborate for the benefit of taxpayers, the Sheriff’s office and Ybor City, we are always going to be interested in those opportunities,” Shaw said in a statement. “We are fortunate to have forward-thinking public partners who are open to exploring possibilities that could lead to long-term advantages for the community.”
