Man Killed, 1 Injured In 3-Vehicle Crash On FL Highway, State Troopers Say

The man's car was hit by a tractor-trailer truck after he tried to get around a slow-moving SUV on I-75, FL Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A St. Petersburg man died Tuesday night after his car was hit by a tractor-trailer truck in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The 67-year-old man was driving his Mitsubishi Mirage north on I-75 in the outside lane, just south of Fletcher Avenue, behind a slow-moving SUV, around 7:20 p.m.

When he tried to overtake the Nissan Rogue, he collided with the SUV, which hit a barrier wall, FHP said.

After the collision, his car rotated and entered the path of the truck, which hit him.

Both the SUV’s driver, a 38-year-old Lakeland woman, and the St. Petersburg man were seriously injured and brought to area hospitals. He later died from his injuries.

The truck’s driver, a 43-year-old Loganville, Georgia, man was uninjured in the crash.
