Student Brought Weapons To High School Campus: Hillsborough Sheriff

A teen brought weapons to a campus at a Hillsborough County high school, the sheriff's office said.

PLANT CITY, FL — A 15-year-old boy was arrested for bringing weapons to Strawberry Crest High School in Plant City, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The student brought a gun and knife to campus.

Though deputies named the suspect, it’s Patch policy not to name minors accused of a crime unless they’ve been charged as an adult. It’s unknown whether he has been charged as a juvenile or an adult.

The student was uncooperative during the search, so the HCSO school resource deputy stepped in.

He reached for the deputy’s agency-issued gun during the search and was put in handcuffs, the sheriff’s office said. A gun and knife were found in his backpack.

"Our deputy acted quickly to prevent any potential harm, and this case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activity," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Let me be clear: bringing weapons onto school grounds is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We encourage parents, students, and staff to work together to keep our schools safe."

The teen was charged with possession of a fiream on school grounds, possession of a weapon on school grounds, minor in possession of a firearm, resisting without violence and altering a serial number on a firearm.
