Suspects Net GPS, Oakley Sunglasses in South Tampa Vehicle Burglaries

The thefts occurred between Thursday, March 28 and Monday, April 1, according to reports from the Tampa Police Department.

While Tampa authorities encourage South Tampa residents to lock their house and car doors, some who forgot or didn't take heed were victims of burglaries over the holiday weekend.

According to reports from the Tampa Police Department, unlocked vehicle doors contributed to a number of items being stolen in South Tampa, from accessories to electronics.

Here's a rundown of reports by date that were submitted to TPD:

Friday, March 29:

  • Sometime between March 27 and 28, a suspect entered three unlocked vehicles, taking a GPS. The area - 3706 West Sevilla Avenue and 3615 West Vasconia Avenue - is where other auto burglaries occurred around the same time.

Saturday, March 30:

  • Sometime between March 29 and March 30 at 4105 West Nassau Street, someone broke into a vehicle by breaking a rear window and climbing inside. The suspect was cut during the break-in, and bled outside the vehicle. The suspect then ransacked the interior of the vehicle, then spray painted the exterior in an attempt to cover up any fingerprints. Then, the suspect removed all four tires and rims from the car. Finally, the suspect went to the victim's other vehicle through an unlocked door and took a speaker from the door panel. The speaker was left behind, and the suspect fled. The suspect also stole a pink Toyota Camry from a driveway at 4321 W. Main Street, but abandoned it at 1620 N. Hubert Street after removing its rims and tires, too. 
  • Sometime between March 28 and March 29, someone entered an unlocked vehicle in a driveway at 601 S. Clark Avenue and took loose change. They then used the garage door remote control to open the garage and go inside of another unlocked vehicle, where loose change was also taken.
  • During the same time period, an auto burglary occurred at 910 S. Frankland Road, where an old iPhone and iPad were taken from an unlocked vehicle. A Pioneer CD/radio/GPS were also taken.

Sunday, March 31:

  • Sometime between March 29 and 30 at 3817 W. Dale Avenue, someone entered the victim's garage, which may have been open, and went inside of an unlocked vehicle, ransacking it. Nothing appears to have been taken.
  • On March 30 at 508 S. Glen Avenue, someone went inside of an unlocked vehicle and took an iPod Touch 3 and a GoPro Helmet Cam.

Monday, April 1:

  • Sometime between March 30 and 31, someone went into an unlocked vehicle at 3004 W. Bay View Avenue and took credit cards, a necklace and office supplies. The cards were not used, and were cancelled by the victim.
  • At 4001 W. Sevilla Street on April 1, someone went into an open garage and took credit cards and gift cards from an unlocked vehicle.
  • At 3923 W. Vasconia Street between March 30 and 31, someone went into two unlocked vehicles and took prescription Oakley sunglasses from one of the vehicles.
  • At 3207 W. Santiago Street on April 1, someone went into a detached garage through an unlocked door and took two bicycles values at $500, fleeing undetected.
