SWAT Call Out Ends With Peaceful Surrender
Hillsborough County deputies say a Saturday standoff in Clair-Mel ended peacefully with a man in custody.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A Saturday afternoon standoff between a man in Clair-Mel and Hillsborough County SWAT team members ended peacefully, according to authorities. After a several-hour standoff outside a home in the 2900 block of Sample Loop, deputies say five juveniles, an adult female and an adult male came out of the home without any injuries.
The standoff began around 4 p.m. when deputies received a call about a man armed with a rifle threatening neighbors, an email from the agency said.

“The man who appeared to be intoxicated went back into the residence,” the email said. Deputies evacuated nearby residents as negotiators worked to make contact with the man inside the home.
"Crisis negotiators were able to establish a line of communications and provide assurance that deputies were committed to a peaceful resolution," a 6:57 p.m. April 8 email from the agency said.

The man, five kids and the adult woman reportedly exited the home safely at 6:45 p.m.
The man, deputies say, does face criminal charges. The charges and the man's name are not being released at this time.
