Tampa Animal Shelter To Take Part In 'Betty White Challenge'

Hillsborough Pet Resource Center in Tampa will honor the beloved, iconic actress by waiving adoption fees Jan. 15-17.

TAMPA, FL — Thousands of animal shelters across the country are participating in the "Betty White Challenge" to honor the iconic actress and lifelong animal lover.

Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center in Tampa is among the many shelters gladly taking part.

"PRC would like to do something special in honor of the late Betty White and her love for pet shelters," the shelter posted, in part, to its official Facebook page.

Starting Saturday, Jan. 15, the first 100 adoptions from Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center will be free in celebration of White's 100th birthday Monday, Jan. 17.

You can adopt dogs and cats at the Tampa animal shelter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Priority will be given to those with appointments, but walk-up customers will be seen between scheduled appointments, according to the shelter.

All the notes on every animal are kept up-to-date so, whether in person or online, adopters can learn everything on hand about the pet. Dogs and cats at the shelter are vaccinated, registered, microchipped, spayed or neutered.

TMZ was first to report that White died peacefully in her sleep at home on Dec. 31 at age 99. Six days before her passing she suffered a stroke.

Following her death, fans of the iconic actress launched the social media challenge, #BettyWhiteChallenge, to honor the late actress by helping animals in need.
