Tampa Bay Area Thanksgiving 2016 Weather Outlook

Find out what kind of weather forecasters anticipate for Thanksgiving week.

Thanksgiving Day is almost here and with millions of people planning to hit the road for the holiday ahead, chances are many folks would like to know what kind of traveling weather to expect. While Florida’s weather can turn on a dime, forecasters are anticipating the upcoming week will deliver mild conditions in the Tampa Bay area and surrounding counties. Turkey day may even be a little bit on the warm side.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front moving into the area over the upcoming weekend is expected to bring daytime highs down into the mid-60s on Sunday. The chill should remain in the air heading into Monday, Nov. 21. Forecasters expect a high around 69 degrees that day along with sunny skies. Mostly clear overnight conditions are in the forecast Monday.

Things are expected to warm up a bit heading into Tuesday. Forecasters anticipate sunny conditions with a high around 75 degrees in much of the region. The overnight low should fall into the upper 50s. Wednesday is expected to bring slightly warmer temperatures.

Thanksgiving Thursday is anticipated to shape up to be a mostly sunny day with a high around 80 degrees in much of the region, according to The Weather Channel. Forecasters there do warn that there’s a 10 percent chance for rain in the cards. The overnight low is expected to drop into the upper 50s in much of the area.

For folks that plan to hit the road for the holiday, forecasters say conditions for the return home over Thanksgiving weekend be nice. Sunny conditions are in the cards through Saturday with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s most days. Rain chances are only anticipated at 10 percent through Saturday.

While the extended forecast indicates the Tampa Bay area and its surrounding counties are in for a mild Thanksgiving week, a tropical disturbance in the Caribbean Sea remains a factor that could change forecasts in parts of Florida over the week ahead. As of Nov. 17, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center were giving the storm of a 70 percent chance of developing more over the next five days. A tropical depression could form over the upcoming weekend, the center wrote in its 7 a.m. Tropical Weather Outlook report Thursday. Just where that storm might go in the coming days remains up in the air. Forecasters say it is expected to move “slowly and erratically.”
