Tampa Bay Area Weather: ‘Localized Minor Flooding’ Possible
Breaking: Slow-moving storms could bring localized minor flooding to the Tampa Bay area, forecasters say.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Bay area is in for a relatively normal week in the weather department with the exception of the potential for slow-moving storms that may bring localized flooding to some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday is expected to get the ball rolling with a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late morning and early afternoon hours. The day’s high should reach about 90 degrees with heat index values near 99.
Forecasters warned in Monday’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report that storms that form are expected to move through the region rather slowly, “which may increase the potential for localized minor flooding.”

Rain chances are expected to decrease to about 10 percent in much of the region in the overnight hours. The low Monday evening is expected to drop to only about 77 degrees.
Scattered thunderstorms are also in the cards on Tuesday with a 40 percent chance of rain in the forecast. The day’s high isn’t expected to be quite as hot as Monday with 88 degrees projected for much of the area. Rain chances persist at 20 percent heading into the overnight hours with a low in the mid-70s expected.

Wednesday is expected to deliver a 30 percent chance for scattered thunderstorms mainly after 11 a.m. The day’s high should reach about 90 degrees. The overnight low is anticipated to drop into the mid-70s once again with isolated thunderstorms possible.
Forecasters say Thursday might kick off with showers in some areas. There’s a 30 percent chance for scattered thunderstorms in the region mainly after 8 a.m. Partly sunny conditions are expected after storms clear out with a high near 90 anticipated. A partly cloudy Thursday night with a low in the mid-70s is forecast.
Friday is anticipated to usher in the weekend with a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms and a high near 90. The overnight low is expected to drop into the mid-70s.
As of Monday, forecasters didn’t expect organized severe weather in the Tampa Bay area this week. Aside from the potential for minor flooding on Monday, they did warn that daily thunderstorms could bring frequent lightning, strong winds and locally heavy rains along with them.
