Tampa Bay Sun FC Remain Undefeated After Ashley Orkus Penalty Block
Tampa Bay is currently ranked second in the USL Super League after two draws.
TAMPA, FL - The Tampa Bay Sun FC remain undefeated in the USL Super League. In the most recent game, Tampa Bay Sun FC Goalkeeper Ashley Orkus faced down an intense D.C. Power penalty shot, leapt to her right, and stopped an incoming ball with her outstretched hand in the 89th minute before a downpour of rain. The save was one of seven made by Orkus during the match and delivered a shutout performance against D.C.
The Sun made eight shots on goal, but were unable to hit the back of the net and ended the game in a 0-0 draw.
The halftime ceremony celebrated Women's Equality Night, honoring local women who have achieved "firsts" in their fields, including former State Senate leader Arthenia Joyner, Tampa Fire-Rescue Chief Barbara Tripp, 2023 Women's World Cup Final Referee Tori Penso, and USL Super League President Amanda Vandervort.

The Sun will hit the road and face Lexington Sporting Club on Sunday, Sept. 8. The next home game will feature Tampa Bay against Brooklyn FC on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., at Riverfront Stadium located at Blake High School near Tampa Heights. Tickets are now available for the game which will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
