Tampa Bay Weather: Rainy, Breezy as Workweek Wears On

Breaking: Slightly cooler temperatures and strong rain chances start out the workweek in the Tampa Bay area with breezy conditions likely.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Bay area will dodge the giant bullet called Hurricane Matthew unless something drastic changes in the storm’s projected path over the next few days. That doesn’t mean, however, that some impacts won’t be felt in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the Tampa Bay area is in for a fairly normal start to the week in the weather department. Monday’s forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon hours and a high in the mid-80s. Storm chances increase to about 60 percent in the evening hours with a low in the low 70s anticipated.

Tuesday is expected to start out with a slight chance for thunderstorms that gradually increases as the day passes. The day’s high is anticipated to climb into the upper 80s. Rain chances persist at 50 percent in the overnight hours with a low around 74 degrees expected.

Wednesday is expected to bring a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon hours and a high near 90 degrees in much of the region. Those storm chances stick around overnight when the low is expected to only fall to about 76 degrees.

Thursday is when conditions are expected to change a bit. The day should deliver a 40 percent chance for storms, mainly after 9 a.m. While the high temperature should once again climb to near 90 degrees, breezy conditions are also expected. Forecasters say wind gusts as high as 25 mph are possible. Rain chances stick around in the overnight hours with a low in the mid-70s expected.

Forecasters expect Friday to arrive with partly sunny conditions and a high in the mid-80s. Rain chances are lower at 30 percent, but breezy conditions are once again anticipated.

Severe weather is not expected in the Tampa Bay area this week, but forecasters are still warning residents to monitor Hurricane Matthew’s progress as it moves north toward the Bahamas and off the state’s east coast.

As of Monday, the weather service was expecting the Tampa Bay area to be in for a beautiful weekend. Saturday is forecast to kick off with sunny conditions and a high in the upper 80s. Overnight conditions are anticipated to be mostly clear with a low around 70.
