Tampa Cyclist Killed In Collision With Car: Police

A 52-year-old Tampa man was killed early Friday morning when a car struck his bicycle from behind, police said.

TAMPA, FL - A 52-year-old Tampa man was killed early Friday morning when a car struck his bicycle from behind near the intersection of E. Hillsborough Avenue and N Central Avenue., police said. The cyclist was identified as Wayne Matthew Kersh, 52, of Tampa.

Both the vehicle and the bicycle were traveling eastbound on Hillsborough Avenue just west of Central when the car struck the bike in the rear about 12:15 a.m., police said. The bicycle appears to have been in the bike lane. There were no signs of impairment, excessive speed, or erratic driving on the part of car driver Sergio Williams, 22. He has not been charged. Kersh was pronounced dead at the scene.
