Investigators Determine Cause Of Blaze At Brookshire Townhomes

Investigators have determined that an electrical malfunction started a fire at Brookshire Townhomes.

TAMPA, FL - Investigators have determined that an electrical malfunction started a fire at Brookshire Townhomes, 1910 West Sligh Ave. The building suffered $400,000 damage and families in eight units were displaced. There were no injuries reported.

The fire started on the back patio of unit B-103 due to an electrical malfunction in the power supply to an air conditioning system's condenser unit, according to fire rescue. The fire quickly spread along the exterior portion of several adjacent units causing major smoke and fire damage.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Arriving crews began dousing the flames from the north side of the building facing Sligh Avenue while another crew made an interior attack from the south side of the building. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about 40 minutes.

One cat was treated with a pet mask. The fire was under control by 4:10 p.m.
