Tampa Girl, 8, Hit by BMW

An 8-year-old Tampa girl on her way to school Tuesday was struck by a car on Florida Avenue.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a Tuesday morning crash involving an 8-year-old girl and a BMW.

According to police, Vanessa Marquez was walking eastbound on Hollywood Street with a sibling around 7:10 a.m. Nov. 15. Police say she stepped off the curb and went into Florida Avenue.

At that time, a blue BMW was heading south on Florida. Its passenger side rear-view mirror struck the girl in the face, police said.

Marquez was taken to a local hospital for treatment following the crash. Police say she suffered injuries that are believed to be not life-threatening.

Police have not released the name of the driver involved, but say it does not appear a citation will be issued.
