TAMPA, FL — Two people are in custody and at least two remain on the loose following a Wednesday night home invasion in Tampa that sent a victim to the hospital after his alleged attackers pistol whipped him, police say.
Officers were called to the 1900 block of East Genesee Street just before 11:30 p.m. Aug. 23. The caller told police shots were fired in the area. When officers made it onto the street, they spotted a Kia Sol “fleeing the area at a high rate of speed,” an email from the agency said.

After learning a home invasion had just occurred and the Kia was the suspect vehicle, a pursuit began, the email said. Police say the suspects drove the Kia to Perry Harvey Park at 900 E. Scott St. and then bailed out of the car. Two men were brought into custody following a foot chase. Police say at least two other suspects got away.
While investigating the chain of events, officers learned the Kia had been reported stolen from Tampa International Airport. They also uncovered more details about the home invasion.
