Tampa Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter In Death Of Motorcyclist

TOWN 'N' COUNTRY — A motorcyclist died Sunday after being cut off by a van on Hillsborough Avenue in Town 'n' Country Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 8:43 p.m., a 62-year-old Tampa man was heading east on Hillsborough Avenue, attempting to make a U-turn at the intersection of Sawyer Road on a green light.

A 33-year-old motorcyclist from Hudson was heading west on Hillsborough Avenue when the van turned in its path, causing the motorcycle to strike the passenger side of the van, said troopers.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the van, Ulises J. Camargo Vergara, was later arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter. Troopers said he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.153. A blood-alcohol level of .08 is considered legally intoxicated.
