Tampa Man Turns Himself In After Fatally Shooting Neighbor: Police

A 22-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his neighbor on North 13th Street in Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — A 22-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his neighbor on North 13th Street in Tampa.

On June 30 at 8:38 a.m., Tampa police were called to a shooting in the 9200 block of North 13th Street and found a man in his 30s who'd been shot in the upper body. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Witnesses told detectives that Amani Berrios became upset after his cell phone was stolen and caused a disturbance at his home on North 13th Street. When the victim asked Berrios to quiet down, witnesses told detectives that he challenged the victim to a fight. He then went into his home, retrieved the handgun and shot the victim multiple times, police said.

Berrios fled the scene to Mobil gas station on North Nebraska Avenue where he asked the clerk to call 911 and turned himself in, police said.
