Officers were ultimately able to identify the suspect as 47-year-old Darian Lamont Daniels.
"Detectives worked diligently with the State Attorney's Office to obtain an arrest warrant just hours after the offense occurred. The US Marshal's Task Force adopted the case and began to search for the violent offender," the police department said in a news release.
The next day officers said they arrested Daniels and transported him to Orient Road Jail and charged him with second-degree murder.
