Tampa Police Investigate Death Of Fleeing Suspect

Police said the man was in a car that was reported stolen in an armed home invasion in Hillsborough County.

TAMPA, FL - Tampa police are investigating an Oct. 20 incident of a fleeing suspect who was injured after he collided with the side of a police car and died days later, police said. The man was identified as Dusharn Weems, 24.

Police said Weems was in a car that was reported stolen in an armed home invasion in Hillsborough County. After Tampa police attempted to stop the car, Weems drove away and then abandoned the car and fled on foot.

A Tampa police officer pulled into a parking lot as Weems ran across the parking lot. Weems collided with the side front panel of the police car and fell. He was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he died several days later.

After the Medical Examiner determines the cause of death, Tampa police will bring the incident to the State Attorney's Office for review.
