1. Nicola's Donuts, one of Tampa's top local dessert shops, has a second shop opening Monday, June 6 inside the Shell Station at 10001 North Dale Mabry Road, Tampa 33618. Nicola's Donuts is owned by Diane Rosario, a Tampa local who is working to add more to the traditional recipes of the shop. (That's So Tampa)
2. The dual-branded Aloft and Element Hotel in Midtown Tampa recently announced the appointment of Johnathan Rodriguez as its new dual-brand executive chef and food & beverage director. Rodriguez's culinary career spans Italian, Spanish, French, Mediterranean and American cuisines. (Tampa Patch)
3. Tampa-based Symphonic Distribution has entered into a strategic merger with a Canadian music distribution firm named Higher Reign Music Distribution. Symphonic Distribution launched was founded in 2006 and has more than 200 employees across the country. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Business Journal)
4. An attorney for Brandon Regional Hospital offered to discharge the medical bills of a patient who died if his daughter agreed not to talk publicly about the case that involves a doctor accused of malpractice, the daughter alleges. A Florida Department of Health investigation determined there was probable cause that the doctor committed medical malpractice when he failed to treat the patient's fatal clot. (WFLA)
5. Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper on Saturday ruled out Brayden Point for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final against the Rangers at Amalie Arena. Point was a key contributor to the past two Stanley Cup championship runs. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times, Free: Bleacher Report)
