Tempus Volta Art Gallery Features 2 New Exhibits In Ybor City
Tempus Volta will present a solo exhibition by artist George Ferrandi at the art studio on the second floor of the Kress Building.

TAMPA, FL — Tempus Volta will present a solo exhibition by artist George Ferrandi at the art studio on the second floor of the Kress Building at 1624 E 7th Ave. in Ybor City.
"George's Lovely Variety: Subscriptive Objects and Correspondence from George Ferrandi" is a monthly subscription of art in the mail. This year’s GLV offerings take the form of home kits for rituals —some playful, some profound. Each contains objects/images that are works of art in their own right, but also serve as meaningful components of a personal ceremony.
“For much of the last decade, my work as an artist has centered on direct social engagement of one type or another," Ferrandi said. "Some projects have culminated in community-driven parades, some in elaborate live performances with highly untrained, mostly willing non-professionals, some in simple subway rides with strangers. The pandemic and necessary social distancing prompted me to question what social engagement could look like in my work during times of isolation, as well as what kinds of interactions were missing from my life. I decided to develop a project that would celebrate personal interaction with beloved objects, and also volunteer a kind of intimacy in voice that might be welcome during times of isolation or loneliness.”

In addition, the exhibition explores concepts such as identity, absence and reconnection through the extended and intentional use of materials and space. Participating artists include Amanda Linares, Jose Luis Garcia and Cristobal Alday.
Linares’ works are influenced by poetry. Her installations, photographs, artist books and sculptures make use of poetic language and narration reflecting on memory and time.

Using similar yet different approaches, Garcia’s photographs are usually printed on paper and presented on an intimate scale. He uses found images from family archives, responses to the loss of memory within his family history reflecting aging and generational migration.
Alday’s artistic practice corresponds to his curatorial and writing approaches. In Alday’s past practices, he used collage-making and poetic responses to reflect on artists’ works and exhibitions, focused on the collaborative aspect of projects and art-making through creative writing.
Both "George's Lovely Variety" and "Unfold" will be on display through May 4 and can be viewed during gallery hours on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment texting 813-340-9056.
