Tow 2 Go Returns to Tampa Bay Area for Labor Day 2016

AAA and Bud Light are working together to help keep roads throughout the Tampa Bay area safe over Labor Day weekend.

TAMPA, FL — AAA Auto Club South and Bud Light are once again teaming up to help make Tampa Bay area roads safer. The free Tow to Go service will be made available to motorists throughout the long Labor Day weekend.

Through its partnership with Bud Light, AAA plans to offer free rides home for impaired drivers and their vehicles starting Friday, Sept. 2. The service will be offered until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Tow to Go is a longstanding partnership between the auto club and Bud Light that provides free rides as a last resort to individuals who are too intoxicated to drive. The service is available to both AAA members and non-members free of charge. It is provided at a time when law enforcement officers across the state are also continuing their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The multi-week effort is scheduled each year to coincide with Labor Day weekend.

Since Tow to Go launched in 1998, the program has provided rides for more than 23,000 impaired drivers, the program’s website reports. It is offered based on availability, providing those who take part free towing within a 10-mile radius of the pickup location.

There are a few caveats with the program:

  • Tow truck drivers can only take a maximum of two people and one vehicle home
  • Advance appointments aren’t allowed as holiday revelers are advised to designate a driver and only use the towing service as a last resort
  • In some situations, a cab might be required or law enforcement might need to be called in to assist in getting an intoxicated motorist home safely

To obtain a ride, call 855-286-9246. The service is also available for other holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, among others.
