USF Bulls Make National Football Rankings

The Bulls' victory over the University of Central Florida Knights put the team in the Top 25 for the first time in five years.

TAMPA, FL — University of South Florida football fans have a reason to celebrate that goes beyond the Bulls’ Saturday victory in the annual War on I-4 rivalry game against the University of Central Florida Knights. It seems that 48-31 win also propelled USF into the national rankings for the first time in five years.

Following Saturday’s round of collegiate play, USF ranked No. 24 on the Associated Press Poll. The victory also put the team in 23rd place on the Amway Coaches Poll. Following Saturday’s rivalry win, USF had an overall season record of 10-2.

The winning record and the initial lack of ranking wasn’t lost on coach Willie Taggart.

“I think Marquez Valdes-Scantiling said it best: to all the writers out there that are watching, USF is still winning,” Taggart told The Oracle following Saturday’s win.

Based on the updated rankings, it seems the writers were paying attention. USF’s inclusion in the national rankings is a first since 2011, The Oracle noted.

USF’s regular season is over, but the Bulls will still play in an undetermined bowl game, according to The Oracle.

Other Florida teams on the AP’s poll include Florida State in 12th place and the University of Florida in 15th. Alabama was ranked No. 1 with Ohio State just behind in second.
