Woman Hit, Killed While Trying To Rescue Dog On Highway: FL Troopers

An SUV hit and killed a Tampa woman and the dog she was trying to rescue on Dale Mabry Highway, Florida Highway Patrol said.

TAMPA, FL — A woman trying to rescue a dog on Dale Mabry Highway Thursday night was hit and killed by an SUV, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The dog also died in the crash.

The 25-year-old Tampa woman got out of her car after spotting the dog on the highway just north of Idlewild Avenue around 10:30 p.m., FHP said.

As she approached the dog, the SUV, driven by a 69-year-old Tampa man, hit both the animal and the woman.

Both died at the scene.
