TAMPA, FL — A passenger in a car has died after being caught in the crossfire of gunfire in Tampa early Saturday morning.

According to Tampa police, at 12:14 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of West Busch Boulevard for a report of gunshots.

Shortly after that, Tampa police were called to the 2200 block of West Waters Avenue for a report of a woman with a gunshot wound.

Tampa police and fire rescue began life-saving measures, but the woman died.

According to police, the woman was a passenger in a car that was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in the area of 1000 West Busch Boulevard.

The other occupants of the car told police they were not aware the woman was injured and drove to get to a safe place away from the gunfire. When they discovered she'd been shot, the driver stopped in the area of 2200 West Waters Avenue and called for emergency assistance.
