Wrong-Way Driver Hits Truck, Spilling Fuel Onto I-4 In Tampa

A Temple Terrace man has been charged with driving under the influence and driving in the wrong direction following a crash on Interstate 4.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A Temple Terrace man has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving in the wrong direction following a crash early Monday morning on Interstate 4.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 3:25 a.m., Larry Lauren McComsey, 58, of Temple Terrace was driving a car west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 when he collided head on with a tractor-trailer truck carrying fuel, driven by a 40-year-old Tampa man.

Troopers said an estimated 100 gallons of fuel spilled onto the highway following the crash.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
