Moxie's Joint, Origami Sushi Cited By Health Inspectors

Food stored on floor, a sink in disrepair and an employee with no hair restraint are a few of the violations found in Hillsborough eateries.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Food stored on the floor, a sink in disrepair and an employee with no hair restraint are some of the violations that Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found recently at Tampa-area restaurants.

Brocato's Sandwich Shop, 5021 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, was cited for 10 violations on May 31, including five live flies in proximity to a garbage can; ceiling tiles/vents soiled with accumulated food debris, grease, dust in the dining area; and current Hotel and Restaurant license not displayed.

Moxie's Joint, 13020 N. Telecom Pkwy, Temple Terrace, was cited for five violations on May 31, including plumbing system in disrepair, having issues with draining in three-compartment sink; a bowl of chicken in handwash sink (removed); and food stored on floor (bag of onions and cases of water bottles in back - manager moved items to shelf).

Starship IV, 25 Causeway Blvd. Slip #55, Clearwater, was cited for seven violations on May 31, including soda gun on main floor soiled; employee with no hair restraint while engaging in food preparation; raw salmon stored over cooked salmon in stand-up cooler.

Origami Sushi, 3615 W. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa, was cited for 12 violations on May 31, including raw shrimp thawed in standing water; sliding door missing on one of two food display cases; and raw beef stored over bananas (operator rearranged food items to prevent cross contamination).

In the last 30 days, 120 Hillsborough County restaurants did not pass the first inspection while 316 restaurants aced the first visit. For more details on Hillsborough County restaurant inspections, click here.

The inspectors made note of four Tampa restaurants that passed inspections during the past week without any violations: Grand Ballroom Hilton Tampa Downtown, 211 N Tampa St.; Hyde Park Cafe, 1806 W Platt St.; Reis And Irvyas Frozen Yogurt, 6302 E Mlk Blvd Ste 200; and M&R Catering, 5831 Memorial Hwy Unit B.

Note: Most of the restaurants with violations have corrected those violations and passed subsequent inspections.
