Update: Two Teenagers Face Murder Charge

Two 16-year-olds have now been charged in an armed robbery where the victim collapsed and died.

Update, 11:45 a.m.: Two 16-year-olds have now been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Jeremy Mayers. 

At 3 a.m. Tuesday, St. Petersburg Police arrested a second 16-year-old in the homicide case of Mayers.

According to police, the two teenagers had conspired to rob Mayers upon his arrival at 3632 Sea Robin Dr. on Sunday morning.

During the robbery the two suspects allegedly, using a shotgun, beat and chocked Mayers to the point of unconsciousness and then fled the area, police said. The two suspects, police said, stole Mayers' cell phone, wallet and his green 200 Chevrolet Impala.

The Impala, with the tag FL X267AP, is still missing. It is an "LS" model and has a missing right front hubcap.

Mayers was found by police around 5 a.m. Sunday while police were investigating another incident in which two juveniles stole a car and crashed nearby. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. 

Earlier, 5:30 a.m.: St. Petersburg Police arrested a 16-year-old girl and charged her with first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Jeremy Mayers.

Mayers was found dead on the front lawn at 3632 Searobin Dr. SE on July 8.

According to St. Petersburg Police, the investigation revealed Mayers was being robbed at gunpoint when he collapsed and later died.

Witnesses, police said, advised Mayers fought with his attackers during the robbery.

Police arrested the teenager, who was implicated as the person who set up the robbery. Police said the teenage suspect was arrested and admitted to setting up the robbery and was charged with 1st degree murder.

Homicide detectives anticipate further arrests will be made in the near future, police said.
