2 Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash In Gulfport

Authorities are asking for the public's help finding the driver of the SUV who struck them.

GULFPORT, FL — Two people were critically injured Friday night when the electric scooter they were on was struck by a car in a hit-and-run crash.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred at 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Gulfport Boulevard and Luana Lane South. Gulfport police and fire and rescue personnel responded to the location and discovered two people lying in the roadway.

Investigators later learned a 61-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were riding an electric scooter eastbound on Gulfport Boulevard in the curb lane when they were likely struck from behind by a vehicle, which continued eastbound and did not stop following the collision.

The vehicle was reported to be an older model SUV with heavy front-end damage, and the rear driver’s side window appeared triangular-shaped.

Both victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
