‘B’ Grade Rating For Pinellas County Schools: FL Dept. Of Education

Pinellas County Schools earned a "B" baseline grade rating from the Florida Department of Education for the 2022-2023 school year.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Pinellas County Schools has earned a “B” baseline grade from the Florida Department of Education for the 2022-23 school year, according to a news release from the school district.

“The grades denote outcomes from the new state progress monitoring assessments implemented last school year and serve as a baseline for future progress,” according to a news release from the district.

Pinellas County Schools remained a B district for the eighth consecutive year but was only two points away from the A designation, the district said.

The district grade is ranked 17th in the state in percent of possible points, tied with Brevard, Martin, Palm Beach and Suwannee counties.

The baseline grades are calculated using results from the first year of implementation of the new state assessment, Florida’s Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), and are considered informational only.

Pinellas County Schools continue to show progress, with 36 percent of schools earning an “A,” 63 percent of schools earning an “A” or “B” and 97 percent earning a “C” or higher, the district said.

“I am proud of the results of our schools and district during this initial, baseline year for school grades. Student success guides the daily and long-term work of the district. Schools are the heart of that transformation and their results during the 2022-23 school year are tremendous,” Superintendent Kevin Hendrick said.

The district has focused on the middle school experience and 10 middle schools improved their school grade this year. Tyrone Middle School earned a “C,” rising from the district’s only “F” school the previous year.

“The commitment and effort of the school teams to improvement is clear across the district. The Transformation Zone continues to focus on student proficiency, long-term progress and supporting any schools demonstrating the need for more focused intervention,” the district said in its news release.

Thirteen schools increased to an “A” grade:

  • Ridgecrest Elementary School
  • Safety Harbor Elementary School
  • San Jose Elementary School
  • StarkeyElementary School
  • Southern Oak Elementary School
  • Carwise Middle School
  • Tarpon Springs Middle School
  • Thurgood Marshall Middle School
  • Sanderlin K-8

Thirteen schools also increased to a “B” grade:

  • Bear Creek Elementary School
  • Belleair Elementary School
  • Lynch Elementary School
  • Perkins Elementary School
  • High Point Elementary School
  • Jamerson Elementary School
  • Lakeview Fundamental Elementary School
  • Mt. Vernon Elementary School
  • Dunedin Middle School

  • Countryside High School

Meanwhile, 41 schools total earned an “A” grade:
