City Council,Mayor Proclamation Says Saturday, Feb 8 is Babe Ruth Day
Tom Stevens, the grandson of the legendary baseball icon Babe Ruth, is set to join the esteemed Kids and Kubs team.
An eighteen-player All-Star team is ready for the Annual Kids and Kubs-Mayor's game at North Shore Park, 901 North Shore Blvd, St Petersburg, at 12:25 PM on Saturday, February 8.
Events before the game will feature a 9:05 AM preliminary game with youth from TASCO Teen Center of St. Pete, a continuing canned food drive benefiting St Petersburg Free Clinic, 11:30 AM, donations to local charities, and food truck specialties. Finally, the annual softball game pitting
Before the game, Saint Petersburg will welcome Babe Ruth as a 9’2’ statue, the creation of artist Blake Emory. The statue is scheduled to be unveiled at 11:30 AM.

Cubbie Kutchinski will captain a formidable array of talent seeking to bring the traveling trophy back to the office of the Three-Quarter-Century Softball Club located in the St Petersburg Sunshine Center.

Before City Hall Stars Kids and Kubs the game, Saint Petersburg will welcome Babe Ruth as a 9'2' statue, the (6'2" Babe sanding on a 3'base) creation of artist Blake Emory.
The statue is scheduled to be unveiled at 11:30 AM. Tom Stevens, grandson of Babe Ruth, will toss the ceremonial first pitch to start action on the North Shore diamond between the Kids and Kubs and the City Hall Stars.
Kids and Kubs roster includes Cubbie Kutchinski (Captain), Joe Craig, Barb Ewald, Walt Ewald, Mike Footlick, Joe Frohock, Tom Glenn, Joe Harrington, Bob Kane, Dennis Kuvalanka, Robert Kaufman, Doug Righter, Frank Sirois, Ray Smith, Mike Vander Syde, with Kaz Gora and Joe Hannah slated to handle the pitching duties for the Kids and Kubs.

This announcement has a unique twist, as Stevens, at 71 years of age does not meet the Club's age requirement of 75 and over. Nevertheless, his inclusion is a testament to the enduring legacy of his grandfather and a celebration of baseball's rich history.
City Hall Stars coach Rick Craft, Recreation and Programming Superintendent, will field a lineup that includes Richie Floyd, Council member, and Rob Gerdes, City Administrator; Keith Glasgow, Parking Manager; Copley Gerdes, Council Vice Chair; Adul Yates, Parks Operations Manager; Heather Judd, Assistant City Attorney; Tom Greene, Assistant City Administrator; Chris Guella, Human Resources Director; Evan Mory, Transportation and Parking Manager; Brett Pettigrew, Assistant City Attorney, Marshall Hampton, Stormwater and Traffic Operations Director and Antwann Jackson, Sanitation Administrative Services Manager. Council vice chair Gerdes and Council member Floyd will lead a strong hitting unit, including Keith Glasgow among the City Hall Star squad.
The City Hall Stars' potent young bats and speed to burn have been tough on the Wiley-over-75 oldtimers the past few years; however, victories in the early years of the annual game find the Kids and Kubs leading in total victories.
