Bystander, 80, Injured In St. Pete Shooting

An 80-year-old man was seriously injured during a Wednesday shooting in St. Petersburg. The man, police say, was an innocent bystander.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An 80-year-old man was sitting outside his St. Petersburg apartment Wednesday night when an argument between two men took a violent turn. Police say the men fired at each other across the complex. Joe Rosemond, caught in the crossfire, was hit in the arm and abdomen.

As Rosemond recovers from surgery to repair his wounds, police are turning to the public to help them find the men responsible.

Police say the shooting took place in the 1100 block of Upton Court South around 9:29 p.m. July 26. Rosemond, who “is well-known in the neighborhood,” was merely sitting outside when he was injured, a Thursday morning email from the police department said.

Police say Rosemond’s injuries are believed to be not life-threatening. Even so, they want to catch up with the men whose argument led to the octogenarian’s injuries.
