Cyclist Died After Being Hit By Car In Gulfport, Carried 8 Blocks On Windshield: Pinellas County Sheriff
A St. Pete woman on an e-bike died after being hit in Gulfport by a car that carried her on its windshield for eight blocks, PCSO said.
GULFPORT, FL — A driver who hit a woman on an e-bike in Gulfport on Saturday and traveled with her on his windshield for about eight blocks, was arrested and faces multiple charges in her death, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Xavier Rigby, 22, of St. Petersburg was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, vehicular homicide leaving the scene and DUI manslaughter.
Rigby was speeding south on 49th Street, approaching 10th Avenue S., in a 2021 Nissan Altima just after 10 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

At the same time, the victim, 38-year-old Kjersten Strang of St. Petersburg, was riding her e-bike in the curb lane south on 49th Street.
He hit Strang, causing her to be ejected from her e-bike. She landed on Rigby’s windshield and he continued driving for about eight blocks before she was thrown from the car, PCSO said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
He left the scene without calling 911 or waiting for police and fire rescue.
A short time later, Rigby was located at 2222 49th Street South in St. Petersburg by the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Rigby showed signs of impairment and refused to cooperate with field sobriety tests, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested and brought to the Pinellas County Jail.
